Tips and Ideas on Parenting Skills

Far North REAP recognizes the awesome job that parents do in raising the next generation.  The TIPS programme aims to give parents some helpful ideas to encourage and support them in this challenging role.

The TIPS programme  :

  • Home Grown
  • Uses trained facilitators
  • You can meet other parents
  • Runs for two hours each week
  • In a supportive non-threatening environment
  • NO COST

 There are eight Modules:

          Te Timatanga/Introducing parenting

                        This is the BIG picture.  How important is the parenting role anyway??

          Whakarongo Mai/ Lets get Listening

                        Learning to REALLY Listen and acknowledge feelings is a foundation for all great relationships.

          Hukeke/Tantrums

                        Where do they come from and what on earth do we do with them?

          Tiaki Whanaungatanga/Behaviour Management

                       Some useful TIPS and Ideas for giving our children some good boundaries. The difference between discipline and punishment.

           Ngā Whakaaro Rangatira/Feeling Good About Ourselves

                       The importance of self esteem in children’s development

          Whanaungatanga/Families

                       Family structures, Sibling relationships, Step Parenting

          Te Pono Me Te Tika/Responsibility and Honesty

                       How do we teach our children values?

          Whanau Tākaro/Family Fun

                       The importance enjoying our families and some good ideas for having fun.

 

Parenting Teenagers is a workshop run over two 2 hour sessions.  Developmental issues are looked at and some behavioral strategies around good boundaries for teens are looked at.
