I’m Mercia Smith. I work in Mainstream schools and Kura kaupapa Maori

Here are some ways I support schools and Kura...

Schools & Kura Kaupapa Maori:

  • Work with teachers in Mainstream (Auraki) Schools, Kura Kaupapa Maori and Rumaki Classes to support programmes of work and support teachers to develop skills and techniques to increase children’s literacy levels.
  • Provide and coordinate workshops and courses to support areas of concern identified by schools or other sources. eg Gifted Children, Te Reo, Learning Styles, Behavioural Management, Illustrators workshops and Raranga (Weaving) workshops.
  • Supporting other providers eg Team Solutions, to provide courses for Beginning Teachers, Teacher Aides.
  • Support to teacher trainees, relieving teachers and overseas teachers.
  • To provide Professional Development to all School Administration staff. 
  • Support Home Schooling parents and students.  A wide range of resources are available for this group
  • Specialist Tutors Hours: Funding is available to EC and schools for extra curricula activities, twice a year. ie Terms 1-2 and Terms 3-4. - Download Specialist Tutor information, application form, evaluation form, or timesheet [pdf].
