Short-Term Contracting - Tutor Outline

Role Summary

Type of Tutor: Te Reo Māori

Length of Contract: 10-weeks (equivalent to school Term 3)

Audience / Learner Group: The target audience are those who are 16 years of age (who are not enrolled in secondary school) or older (right up to kuia and kaumatua age) with an emphasis on enhancing literacy, numeracy and digital literacy skills.

Team Overview: You will be working alongside the Adult Community Education Team at Far North REAP, to deliver quality programmes in Te Tai Tokerau. Our catchment is as far North as Te Kao and Te Hapua, North Hokianga on the West Coast and Kaeo on the East.

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this role is to plan and facilitate a Te Reo Māori for Beginners Programme, supporting adult learners in a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

·       Plan and deliver learning sessions that meet the needs of adult learners.

·       Facilitate a welcoming, respectful and inclusive learning environment.

·       Prepare learning materials, activities and resources for each session.

·       Maintain communication with the programme contact or coordinator about attendance, progress and any issues arising.

·       Support safe practice and follow organisational policies and procedures.

·       Complete any agreed reporting, feedback or programme documentation.

Skills and Experience

·       Experience in tutoring, teaching, facilitation or community education is preferred but not required.

·       Ability to engage adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

·       Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

·       Confidence in planning and delivering practical or classroom-based learning.

·       Ability to work independently and reliably within a short-term contract arrangement.
