Sewing Basics Programme - Pawarenga

Tutor: Lynda Connell

This five-week sewing programme is designed to help participants develop essential sewing skills and build confidence in a supportive, hands-on learning environment. Learners will gain experience using a sewing machine, explore a variety of stitching techniques, and create practical projects while discovering creative ways to reuse and repurpose fabrics and clothing, promoting sustainable and cost-effective sewing practices.

What participants will learn:

  • Operate a sewing machine safely and confidently, including threading, basic setup, and maintenance.

  • Demonstrate a range of fundamental stitching techniques and apply them to simple sewing projects.

  • Interpret basic patterns and measurements to construct functional textile items.

  • Create high-quality handmade products, including tote bags, cushion covers, and similar items.

  • Apply sustainable practices by repurposing recycled fabrics and clothing into new, usable designs.
